At Ace Electric we sell new domestic appliances at the best price, and with service and overall value to the fore. But we also know that times are difficult and people’s instincts might be to look for refurbished appliances in the first instance.
The primary differences between new and refurbished appliances lie in their history, price, and warranty coverage.

Condition and History
- New: These appliances are direct from the factory. Unused and therefore in pristine condition.
- Refurbished: Pre-owned or returned items. Tested, repaired, and cleaned.
Pricing and Value
- New: Full retail price, although there is competition in the market and that drives a lot of price promotion between brands. But it’s fair to say that a new appliance is likely to have a higher initial cost.
- Refurbished: Discounted prices. The discount can vary – somewhere between 15% to 50% cheaper than new applainces.
Warranty Coverage
- New: One of the key selling about buying new is the peace of mind of a full manufacturer warranty. Typically 1 to 5 years including parts and labour.
- Refurbished: Shorter warranty periods. Usually 3 to 12 months. Be careful to read the small print of warranty terms and conditions on refurbished appliances.
Cosmetics and Aesthetics
- New: Flawless exterior appearance. Perfect condition.
- Refurbished: May have minor imperfections e.g., small dents or scratches, but not that would affect performance.
Lifespan and Reliability
- New: Maximum expected lifespan. No wear on internal parts.
- Refurbished: Lifespan varies by part age. Main components are thoroughly verified.
