Drought declared across much of England
Last Wednesday a drought was declared across more than half of England as hot, dry weather takes its toll on the country’s water supplies. A hose pipe ban came into force in the Fleet area on 25 July.
Water conservation should be something we are mindful of. As an independent seller of water-consuming domestic appliances, we want to bring to your attention some interesting facts about water consumption.
Dishwashers
Water Usage: Standard dishwasher models use between 9 and 15 litres per cycle. Ultra-efficient or eco settings on specific models of dishwasher can drop consumption to as low as 6 to 8.4 litres. Source: Miele.

Tips for maximum dishwasher efficiency (not just water)
Air Dry: Open the door at the end of the cycle to let dishes dry naturally rather than using heated drying
Wait for a Full Load: Half-load settings often use nearly the same amount of energy and water.
Skip the Pre-Rinse: Scraping plates instead of washing them under a running tap saves dozens of litres of water per meal.
Washing machines
The most efficient washing machines use approximately 6 litres of water per kg of clothes, compared to the poorest machines which can use up to 14 litres per kg. That over twice as much. Source: How to Save Water
How to save water with your washing machine
When using your washing machine, make further water usage savings with these tips:
1. Only wash full loads. Washing machines operate at maximum efficiency when the drum is full. If you tend not to fill the drum you should wash less frequently or consider a washing machine with a smaller drum.
2. Use a cotton wash instead of synthetic wash. To avoid creasing, synthetic wash programmes use 50% more water than cotton washes.
3. Do not use extra rinse. If your washing programme has this feature and it is set, it will obviously use more water. The extra rinse features is to ensure the fabric softener is completely removed for the benefit of anyone with sensitive skin.
4. When you buy a new washing machine, check the water icon on the energy efficiency label.
