Here are 5 things to consider when choosing a new fridge freezer for your home.
- How many people live in the property? Did you know that fridge freezer capacity is measured in litres? 1 or 2 people, a fridge freezer capacity of c200 litres will be suitable. For 3 – 4 people, 200-300 litres. For 5-6 people 300 litres or above.
- Where will your fridge freezer be housed? Fridge freezers are measured in cms height, depth and width, so think about the size and layout of your kitchen or utility room. A freestanding fridge or fridge freezer can be fitted anywhere in your kitchen (provided it’s close to a power socket and has enough space above and around it to release heat.) Most fridge freezers will have removable door hinges, so you can choose the convenient way the door will open.
- What split of fridge freezer space do you need? 50/50, 60/40 or 70/30? Base your decision on the types of food you like to eat and whether you tend to cook fresh or from frozen. A 60/40 fridge freezer spilt is a popular choice for many households. But if ‘fresh food daily’ is your thing, a 70/30 split might work best. If you’re just as big on batch cooking or stocking up those frozen deals, a 50/50 fridge freezer might suit you better.
- What configuration of fridge freezer is right for you? Do you prefer the fridge above the freezer? Or perhaps an American style is better (a wardrobe solution) where the fridge and freezer are next to each other.
- How long should my new fridge freezer appliance last? Most appliances are designed to have a life of 10-20 years. If you expect the numbers in your home to increase in that time, that may influence how much money you want to spend, or you may choose to buy a bigger appliance now in the expectation of future space being needed.
